Arrival at Namche Bazar.

overcast

Hotel Tibet was our hotel again but Tommy's wound from scuba diving was extremely red and swollen but we had an acclimatisation day so he could rest it. We treated ourselves to a hot shower... Well poor Tommy's was cold and we put our clothes in for washing! After a nap we headed up to the Monastery to celebrate the summer festival. The building was beautiful with colourful paintings on the wall, music from the monks and the place was packed out! The traditional dress was black robes and hats similar to a Mexican look and women wore jewels and gold to display wealth. We were welcomed to sit and join the festivities with sweet tea and rice throwing. The high monk led the festival and blessed people with silk scarves and they gave money. After quietly leaving we had tea and rested our tired muscles. Namche Bazar was shrouded in cloud and it rained all night!

Tuesday 3rd July
Tommy's foot was the topic of the morning as it was so swollen and angry we couldn't walk around Namche as planned! Tanka went to get antibiotics and we relaxed for the day. Mid afternoon we headed down to the kitchen and played 10 (the card game of the holiday) with Chris and Alex, the Austrians and our guides! Tommy's Yak steak was calling from the menu and he was served up a rich steak that looked like venison.
